We all have the freedom to express our belief and opinion to the government, but we should not forget that complaining to their imperfection is not only our responsibility but it is also our duty to help them for the betterment of our country.
The legacy of the youth activist has been preserved from generation to generation. even in the times of former President Ferdinand Marcos where the real people power was established, youth activist were always in the road to join other political group who wanted to oust Marcos.
Even today youth activist are still very active and very vocal on opposing the government on how they handle the issue of corruption, peace and order, justice, education etc. but the question is, do they still have the values of activism? because I believe that youth activism is not only meant seeking for change in social, political, economic and environment issues but they must also be a good example on how to become a real nationalist youth, not in the way of rallying against the government(common option) when they see something wrong or did not get what they expect to the government. we can also be a youth activist by showing other on how to live productively which surely help our government for nation progress and economic stability.
Some activist may tell me that, they helping our country for progress by showing their protest whenever the government made decision which contradict their beliefs and what they are fighting for. but, is this really the only way to help our country for progress ? there is no such perfect government and it is impossible to satisfy all, it will only continue the cycle every time there were new installed administration.
I am not saying that being an activist or opposing the government was a villainous act, in fact I owe the activist group for their continuous effort to fight for our right and stopping the government on depriving it. the only thing I want is to give our government a chance to prove themselves that they work for the good and welfare of the people. They only see the bad side but they must learn also to give credit whenever the government do something good and beneficial to the people.
A mere fact that activist only see the government defect and the people around it. They easily deter the weakness and wrongdoing of the administration, but they don't see their own. If they really want a change it must start to them especially on their study. We had no right to comment on the problem of our nation if we ourselves was a part of it. Some activist give it all even giving their own life on opposing the government, they sacrifice their study, their family, their dreams etc. but do they think that they will be our nation future problem?
I am nothing against activist because I admire some of them ( Ninoy Aquino, Ramon Mitra etc.) but i might say that not all youth activist are ideal activist like before. Many of them are just persuade to join without knowing the responsibility vested on it. some of them join for experience and just want to have thrill in their life.
But still I believe that there are a good number of activist out there possessing the true values of activism and we are all free to decide what kind of activist we want to be. Do you want to be a attention seeker activist? or the other one we should be idolized for his commitment in our nation and also to himself.

ReplyDeletebeing a former student activist during the last years of Marcos era i really admire them most especially those activist who still possessed the true meaning of activism. Are you not one of them? good luck.
ReplyDeleteBeing an advocate is no joke. Way back before, people became an activist because they seek for change. They do believe that when they speak out, the government might deal with the effects of their wrongdoings and irresponsibility. Furthermore, these people risk their life for the benefit of the whole country. But in my own perception, rally isn’t a good idea to express the antagonistic thought of the activist. Because thru this scheme, many innocent people, who just want transformation, is being forced to commit such things that triggers the police to use weapons. And nowadays, activist rallies every now and then to show that they oppose every decision made by the government, which I think are an erroneous act. ‘Cause many are being disturbed by this public meeting.
ReplyDeleteI do understand their point but I hope they might consider other things to show their dispute.
Youth is only molded by the society to whom they look up to.
